Curbside Trash and Recycling Collection
Effective July 1, 2026, Waste Management (WM) provides residential trash and recycling collection services for Plainfield Township.

Trash is collected once per week, on either Monday or Tuesday depending on your location within the Township. Recycling is collected every other week on the same day as your trash collection, with residents assigned to either an Odd Week or Even Week recycling schedule. Residents should place their carts at the curb the night before their scheduled collection day.

Residents must use the WM-provided trash and recycling carts for collection. Household trash should be bagged before being placed inside the trash cart. Recyclables should be placed loosely inside the recycling cart and should not be placed in plastic bags. Do not place additional trash bags or other containers beside the WM carts. WM will not be able to remove the additional trash bags/refuse items.

Beginning July 1, 2026, residential trash and recycling service is provided by Waste Management at no direct charge to Plainfield Township residents, and residents will no longer receive quarterly trash bills from the hauler.

Bulk Item Collection
Residents may dispose of one bulk item per week as part of the Waste Management residential collection service. Bulk items should not be placed inside the WM trash or recycling carts. Residents must contact Waste Management at 1-800-869-5566 in advance to schedule a bulk item for collection. Only one bulk item per week is included in the residential service. Residents with additional items or questions regarding special items should contact Waste Management before placing them at the curb.
Mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic before collection.

No Construction or Demolition Debris!
We do not pick up concrete or construction materials, such as roofing and other home remodeling debris. You will need to make special arrangements with J.P. Mascaro & Sons or another waste hauler to remove this debris.

Yard Waste
Waste Management does not collect yard waste as part of Plainfield Township's residential trash and recycling service. Do not place yard waste in either your trash or recycling cart.

Plainfield Township is currently planning and implementing a Township-operated yard waste drop-off facility at the municipal property located at 6292 Sullivan Trail. Information regarding opening dates, hours, resident access and accepted materials will be announced once the facility is completed.

In the meantime, residents may make private arrangements with a yard waste hauler. Controlled burning of permitted yard waste may also be allowed when all Township burning requirements are followed. Residents should call Non-Emergency Dispatch at 610-759-2200 before burning to confirm that no burn ban is in effect and to comply with Township requirements.

No Hazardous Wastes
Car batteries, gasoline, motor oil, pesticides, oil-based paint, car tires and other toxic or hazardous materials should not be placed in your trash or recycling carts.

For information regarding proper disposal of hazardous materials, contact Northampton County at 610-559-3000. Many automotive stores also accept used motor oil and car batteries.

Single-Stream Recycling Collection - Every Other Week
Recycling is collected every other week on the same Monday or Tuesday as your regular trash collection. Residents are assigned to either an Odd Week or Even Week recycling schedule based on their location within the Township. Accepted mixed recyclables include plastic bottles and containers, flattened cardboard and paperboard, food and beverage cans, paper, and glass bottles and containers. Recyclables should be empty and placed loose in the recycling cart. Cardboard should be cut or flattened so that it fits inside the cart; it should not be bundled or tied. Do not place plastic bags, bagged recyclables, plastic film, food or liquids, foam cups or containers, batteries, yard waste, clothing, furniture or carpet in the recycling cart.

Holiday Collection Schedule
Waste Management does not provide collection on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day. Collection services will be delayed by one day following these holidays. Residents should check Township or Waste Management notices for holiday schedule changes.
